I just wanted to say hank you to Hank and John for their tumblr posts on Borders closing. It is truly comforting to see them guys post this. As a Borders employee (I’m in the Capitola, CA store) who is going through the last few days of soul-sucking liquidation, at a store full of nerdfighters, this means more to me than anything we’ve heard throughout the entire process.
But, there is light in the darkness! As hardcore nerdfighers dedicated to battling world-suck, we’re all such passionate book lovers that we just can’t see our store fall. We’re currently working on re-opening as an independent bookstore as soon as Borders vacates the space. We have lots of amazing things planned, including being a haven for geeks and nerds, and doing things like Nerdfighter book clubs, carrying all of John Green’s books, cosplay days and other awesome nerdy things!
We could use all the love and support of Nerdfighteria right now to boost our spirits. So here’s a call out to any Nerdfighters out there: Go into your local Borders, if it’s still open, and tell them how their recommendations, their enthusiasm for reading, and their desire to reach out have affected your life. Because nothing has taken the joy away from our jobs we used to love like seeing our beloved home disintegrate into the humiliating state its in due to liquidation.
DFTBA, you guys! I’m excited for the day when I get to tell you more about our awesome Nerdfighter future-book-store!
